Creatively Expressing our 2SLGBTQIA+ Identities Through Intergenerational Daring Dialogue

“What do I wish you knew about my queer story?”

exChange Mural

This mural was created at our May 2024 Arts Event. With guided reflection and sharing, each participant expressed their response through creative writing to the guiding question “What do I wish you knew about my queer story?” on a cue card, and then tucked it into the pocket of a square tile they painted. These tiles were then pulled together to create a community mural of stories bonded by the guiding question. The mural also contains tiles without a cue card or a pocket to represent and acknowledge the lost, unheard, and not yet shared stories of the queer experience. This mural was first exhibited at the 2024 Enchanté Network Conference in Moh’ kinstsis/Calgary where conference attendees also contributed their own stories to the mural by adding additional cue cards to the pockets.

The mural was shared with the public on November 2024 event at exChange Art Show at the MEM, where the public was invited to interact with the mural by pulling out the cards to reveal the creative writing and narratives housed in the pockets.
